Installation - Filter-Lubricator and Filter-Regulator-Lubricator
The use of an in-line Filter-Lubricator or Filter-Regulator-Lubricator is a convenient and effective means of lubricating a Will-Burt pneumatic telescoping mast. Both the Filter-Lubricator (P/N 90634) and the Filter-Regulator-Lubricator (P/N 900484) are designed with a lubricator which provides a fine mist of lubricant into the air supply line of the mast and a bronze filter element which cleans the air and separates water which has condensed in the air supply line. The Filter-Regulator-Lubricator (P/N 900484) has an air regulator for those installations where the pneumatic system/sir supply must be regulated to the low operating pressure of the telescoping mast.
Installation
Caution: Wear eye protection at all times. |
|
1. |
Before mounting the Filter-Regulator-Lubricator or Filter-Lubricator, be sure that the unit will not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. |
2. |
Using 1/4" NPT fittings, the Filter-Lubricator or Filter-Regulator-Lubricator should be installed in the air supply line ahead of the air control valve. (Refer to Service Sheet # 413.) Exhaust air should not enter this device. |
3. |
The arrows on the top of the Filter-Lubricator and Filter-Regulator-Lubricator should correspond to the direction of the air flow into the mast. The air will pass through the filter, then the regulator (if used) and finally the lubricator. |
4. |
The unit must be mounted horizontally with the filter and lubricator bowls on the bottom as shown in the diagram below. |
5. |
Leave 2 1/2" of free space below the unit to allow for easy access to the filter and lubricator bowls. |
6. |
Leave access to the fill plug (10) on top of the lubricator module to allow for refilling. |
Filling Lubricator Reservoir:
Caution: Shut off air supply and depressurize the system on both sides of the Filter-Lubricator or Filter-Regulator-Lubricator.
|
1. |
Remove the black fill plug (10) on the top of the lubricator module (7) in front of the adjustment screw (11). |
2. |
Fill the TMD mast lubricant P/N 900600 or SAE 10 light weight machine oil to the top of the sight glass of the nylon bowl (9). |
3. |
Replace and tighten the fill plug. |
Caution: Nylon carbonate bowls may be damaged and possibly fail if exposed to synthetic oils, thinner solvents, trichlorethylene, hersene, or other aromatic hydrocarbons. |
|
Adjustment of Air Regulator:
Unlock the pressure adjustment knob (6) on the regulator module by gently pulling downward. Only a slight motion will be detected. |
Clockwise to increase output pressure. |
Counterclockwise to decrease output pressure. |
Adjustment of the Lubricator:
Turn the small silver colored adjustment screw (11) on the top of the lubricator module: |
Clockwise to reduce oil flow. |
Counterclockwise to increase oil flow. |
Adjust the oil usage to approximately 1 bowl for 3 to 4 extensions of the mast. |
1. |
Periodically drain the filter bowl (3) by depressing the bleed pin (2) on the bottom of the bowl. |
2. |
The bowl can be removed for cleaning
Caution: Shut off air supply and depressurize the system on both sides of the Filter-Lubricator or Filter-Regulator-Lubricator before removing the filter bowl for cleaning. |
|
3. |
Unscrew the metal guard (3) around the filter bowl and remove the filter bowl. |
4. |
Inside the filter bowl (3) is a bronze filter element (4) which should be changed periodically. |
5. |
Replace bowl and metal guard. |
Note: Although this method of lubrication is effective, the mast should also be periodically cleaned and lubricated as described in Service Sheet # 403. |
